چکیده

Arthropod venoms are potential sources of bioactive substances, providing tools for the validation popular use and new drugs design. Ants belonging to genus Dinoponera used in folk medicine treat inflammatory conditions. It was previously demonstrated that venom giant ant quadriceps (DqV), containing a mixture polypeptides, elicit antinociceptive effect mice models chemical, mechanical thermal nociception. The aim this study evaluate DqV antiinflammatory antihypernociceptive effects model traumatic cutaneous wound. Colonies D. were collected ‘Serra de Maranguape’ (State Ceará, northeastern Brazil), small mountain range located on coastal zone, secreted by glands extracted with capillary tubes, further lyophilized maintained at -20 ± 1ºC until use. Wounds performed dorsum Swiss mice. Animals received intravenous (i.v.) injection (50 µg kg-1 day-1) during 3 days evaluation parameters present wounds: hypernociception, leukocyte infiltrate, myeloperoxidase activity, nitrite/nitrate content. Data tested two-way ANOVA Bonferroni’s post-hoc test. reduced (2.7 folds) hypernociception 48 hours, infiltration 65% 6 hours activity 60% 0.5 hour after wound induction. In conclusion, from attenuates inflammation wounds.

Transcriptome Analysis in Venom Gland of the Predatory Giant Ant Dinoponera quadriceps: Insights into the Polypeptide Toxin Arsenal of Hymenopterans

BACKGROUND Dinoponera quadriceps is a predatory giant ant that inhabits the Neotropical region and subdues its prey (insects) with stings that deliver a toxic cocktail of molecules. Human accidents occasionally occur and cause local pain and systemic symptoms. A comprehensive study of the D. quadriceps venom gland transcriptome is required to advance our knowledge about the toxin repertoire of ...

Anticonvulsant Effects of Fractions Isolated from Dinoponera quadriceps (Kempt) Ant Venom (Formicidae: Ponerinae)

Natural products, sources of new pharmacological substances, have large chemical diversity and architectural complexity. In this context, some toxins obtained from invertebrate venoms have anticonvulsant effects. Epilepsy is a neurological disorder that affects about 65 million people worldwide, and approximately 30% of cases are resistant to pharmacological treatment. Previous studies from our...

A biochemical characterization of the major peptides from the Venom of the giant Neotropical hunting ant Dinoponera australis.

Venom from the "false tocandira"Dinoponera australis, a giant Neotropical hunting ant, paralyzes small invertebrate prey and induces a myriad of systemic effects in large vertebrates. HPLC/DAD/MS analyses revealed that the venom has over 75 unique proteinaceous components with a large diversity of properties ranging in size, hydrophobicity, and overall abundance. The six most abundant peptides,...

Hyaluronidase Modulates Inflammatory Response and Accelerates the Cutaneous Wound Healing

Hyaluronidases are enzymes that degrade hyaluronan an important constituent of the extracellular matrix. They have been used as a spreading agent, improving the absorption of drugs and facilitating the subcutaneous infusion of fluids. Here, we investigated the influence of bovine testes hyaluronidase (HYAL) during cutaneous wound healing in in vitro and in vivo assays. We demonstrated in the wo...
